Arrival and day 1: the beginning of the adventure

25 april 2016 - Greeley, Colorado, Verenigde Staten

Hi!

It's 5:45 in the morning, I'm trying to survive my jetlag at the moment. Fortunately I slept early, so after 8 hours of sleep I am still quite fit. It's time to tell you about the flights and my first day in Colorado.

When the train arrived at Schiphol we realized the holiday just started, therefore it was very busy and we had to wait in long queues to check-inn our luggage and to survive the custom services. Luckily we had time enough. But a lot of people didn't, and they were running to get their flights on time. Because of this we didn't have to wait to get our Starbucks coffee, which was really tasty. We arrived at the gate on time and the adventure started.

The flight to Washington was really nice. I watched some movies and listened to the music. Even the food was tasty. When we arrived in the USA we had some very strict passport control. We survived! We had to collect our luggage because it wasn't possible to send it directly to Colorado. We checked our luggage again and had to go through customs for the next flight to Minneapolis. This flight was really nice and I slept for approximately an hour (local time it was 19:00, but Dutch time 2:00). After this flight we got our last flight to Denver, I slept all the time and didn't even experience departure or arrival. After arrival we went to the hotel and finally arrived after 25 hours of traveling.

Our time schedule was totally disrupted, so we woke up quite early. We had breakfast at a nice egg-restaurant,  I ate a really American dish namely American pancakes. After that we wanted to do some shopping, but downtown Denver didn't have many nice shops so we went to the Colorado Mills mall. After shopping we explored the area, which is quite agricultural. We even saw a farm with thousands of sheep. We drove by the school and elderly home were my internship will be and finally went to the Gates family. They organized a welcoming dinner for me and my dad, which tasted really good. We talked for a bit and the children taught me a self-made game. We gave them some gifts and the kids showed me the house. Around 7:30 pm I said bye to my dad. I'm sorry, but I don't think I have time to miss the people in the Netherlands, because I have a lots of games to do. I read a book together with Gisele and went to bed early because I was quite tired.

It's a pleasure to stay with the Gates family!

Today is the first day of my internship at the tower primary school, I think I will really like it.
